The Solutions

Going smoke-free is a must to reduce your health risks. The best way to go smoke-free is to quit smoking altogether. But for those who don’t, smoke-free alternatives are better than continuing to smoke.

While it may seem tough, the journey is worth the effort. Always remind yourself—KAYA ko ‘to!

Quitting Smoking

Like everyone knows the harms of smoking, everyone knows the benefits of quitting which is why so many people try to quit. Here are some helpful tips to get you started on your quitting journey.

Switching to Smoke-Free Alternatives

While not as good quitting entirely, the good news is that smokers who don’t quit have less harmful alternatives available to them. It’s important to know what these options are and that it’s better to switch to them instead of continuing to smoke cigarettes.

Smoke-free alternatives don’t produce harmful smoke. They deliver nicotine without burning tobacco, considerably reducing toxic chemicals compared to cigarette smoke, making them a less harmful option compared to traditional cigarettes. Smoke-free alternatives don’t produce any ash or the lingering smell that we all hate from cigarettes.

E-cigarettes/Vapes

E-cigarettes or vapes heat up e-liquid to create vapor—no burning involved! This means that they can deliver nicotine with far less harmful chemicals. The UK’s Office for Health Improvements and Disparities states that vaping poses a small fraction of the risk of smoking, and that vaping can help smokers quit.

They don’t contain tobacco and come in various formats, like refillables, pods and disposables.

Why Switch to Smoke-Free Alternatives?

  • Reduced Harm: By eliminating burning, smoke-free products release far fewer harmful chemicals compared to cigarette smoke. It stands to reason that reducing exposure to these toxins results in reducing harm from smoking-related illnesses.

  • Improved Quality of Life: People who have switched to smoke-free products often report better taste and smell, improved breathing, and more energy.

  • Social Benefits: People who switch to smoke-free products also report that they no longer smell like cigarette smoke or have to deal with the mess created by ash.

  • Reduced healthcare costs: Lowering the burden of disease results in corresponding reductions in healthcare expenditures both for individuals and the country’s healthcare budget.
